/Goal
This seminar introduces students to speculative fiction as a genre that explores imagined worlds, alternative societies, and possible futures. Through selected readings and multimedia materials, students will examine how writers and filmmakers use speculative stories to reflect on technology, culture, identity, and the environment. Students will develop skills in interpretation, discussion, and presentation.

This course will be conducted primarily in English, except in cases where Japanese is necessary. Active participation, consistent effort, and independent study are required.

/Attainment Targets
In this seminar students will be able to:
1. Understand basic characteristics of speculative fiction and related genres.
2.Identify common themes and ideas in speculative literature, film, and other media.
3.Develop skills in reading, interpretation, discussion, presentation, and writing through engagement with course materials.
4.Explore personal interests in speculative fiction and begin thinking about possible areas of research for future seminars.
