This course helps students develop their English speaking ability through discussions on thought-provoking topics related to society, education, and contemporary issues. As one of the options for students in the teacher license training program, some topics will focus on education. Students who miss more than one third of classes will not receive credit unless the absences are officially authorized.In this class, students will learn discussion and rhetorical strategies that will help them participate more effectively in English discussions.

ねらい
/Goal
In this class, students will have the opportunity to practice discussion in a variety of contexts, both casual and formal. They will build confidence and self-efficacy by engaging with relevant contemporary topics and challenging themselves to express their ideas clearly and persuasively. Students will explore different discussion formats, including panel discussions, storytelling, debates, and even telling jokes, helping them develop versatile and engaging communication skills in English.

This course will be conducted primarily in English, except in cases where Japanese is absolutely necessary. Active participation, consistent effort, and independent study are required. This will be a safe environment where you will be able to make mistakes as part of the process.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. Participate confidently in both casual and formal discussions.
2. Expressing ideas on contemporary topics.
3.Participate in different discussion formats, from using humor to more formal debates and panel discussions.
4.Develop critical thinking and persuasive communication skills.

Students who miss more than one-third of the total class sessions will receive a failing grade unless special circumstances are recognized by the university. This class will be conducted entirely in English unless Japanese is absolutely necessary.
