/Goal
As an advanced course following English I, this class aims to further develop students’ practical English communication skills for real-life situations. Through activities such as shadowing-based listening practice, students will improve their listening ability and fluency.

Another objective of the course is to help students communicate appropriately with English-speaking visitors in Japan and Okinawa in everyday situations, including part-time work or casual interactions.

This course aims to help students build both the knowledge and confidence needed to communicate in English. Students will deepen their understanding of both English-speaking cultures and Japanese culture through classroom activities.

Classes will be divided based on placement test results.

Course orientation and overview of objectives. Listening and shadowing practice for everyday communication. Speaking practice through pair work and role-play in practical situations. Listening comprehension and vocabulary development. Communication tasks related to interacting with international visitors. Intercultural communication activities and discussion. Listening and pronunciation practice through shadowing. Speaking practice using real-life scenarios. Integrated listening and speaking activities. Midterm review and midterm test. Feedback and reflection activities. Further listening practice and communication tasks. Group work and discussion activities. Presentation preparation and group presentations. No specific textbook is required for this course.
Learning materials, worksheets, and supplementary resources will be provided by the instructor through the university’s learning platform or distributed during class as necessary. Students may also be asked to access additional online materials for listening and communication practice.
学びの手立て
/Way of learning
Attendance is part of the course evaluation and will be checked every class. Students who are absent for more than one-third of the classes will automatically fail the course. If absence is unavoidable, students must inform the instructor in advance by email and submit an official absence notice with supporting documentation.

Since many interactive activities will be conducted, students are expected to participate actively in every class.

Preparation and review are essential for improving English skills. Classes will proceed on the assumption that students have completed the required preparation. Many tasks will require students’ initiative both inside and outside the classroom, so students should manage their time responsibly.

Drawing on the instructor’s overseas experience and professional translation background, the course will provide practical and high-quality English learning opportunities.
