Interviews with International Students at Okinawa International University

I want to study Japanese and English, and use them in an international job.

Iwayan Sutama

3rd year, Department of British and American Language and Culture
College of Global and Regional Culture
(Denpasar City, Bali, Indonesia)

My home, Bali, is a tourist site, so people come to visit from many different countries. There are lots of visitors from Japan, so I decided to study in Japan to learn Japanese. I also wanted to learn English at the same time, so I chose to study abroad at Okinawa International University where I can study both languages. I learn a lot at school because I can directly practice speaking English and Japanese. I can also experience cultural exchange, so I’m having a great time. Plus, since I’m living in Okinawa I want to try the eisa dance. Right now, my Japanese level is still low and classes are a little difficult, but I’d like to study even harder and in the future work in a job where I can use what I learned at university in Japan.

Iwayan Sutama

I’m enjoying the cultural differences between my country, and Okinawa and Japan.

Cai Hui

3rd year, Department of Economics
College of Economics and Environmental Policy
(Fuzhou City, China)

My cousin and friends studied abroad at Okinawa International University, and I studied Japanese for a year here as a non-degree student. I came to really like the university’s learning environment, and the nature and climate of Okinawa, so I decided to continue my studies here. Studying Japanese is hard, but I can experience Japanese and Okinawan culture, and understand various differences between Japan and my country, China. It’s very interesting. Living in Okinawa, I discover something new every day. There’s never a dull moment. Of course, studying earnestly in a beautiful environment of blue skies and sea is fun, and I enjoy going out to lots of different places. In the future, I want to work as an interpreter or some other kind of job where I can use my language skills, so I’d like to study language even more.

Cai Hui

It’s my dream to share what I learned in Japan with China.

Yang Chengqiang

2nd year, Graduate School of Regional Business and Economics
(Lianjiang County, Fujian Province, China)

I’ve always been interested in business, so I came to Okinawa International University to focus on management. I graduated from the Department of Business Administration, and now I’m studying at the Graduate School of Regional Business and Economics. Sometimes studying is hard, and I stay up until late at night, but when I’ve finished I feel a sense of accomplishment and that it was worth it. I’ve also made lots of friends at school, so my point of view has broadened through cultural exchange. Even after I complete my graduate studies, I’d like to study further in a doctorate program. In the future, I’m interested in becoming a university professor in China to share what I learned in Japan about management and providing sincere service. I’m also interested in academic exchange and international trade that brings Okinawa and China together.

Yang Chengqiang

I studied hard and enjoyed my student life in an environment of excellence.

Wong Ka Weng

Graduate of the Department of British and American Studies
Graduate School of Regional Culture
(Macau, China)

When I was a 4th-year student in university, I studied for a year at Okinawa International University through an exchange program and came to love Okinawa. When I thought about going on to graduate school after graduating from the University of Macau, I decided to come to Okinawa International University because I could study Japanese and English, and conduct research in a tranquil atmosphere amid the beauty of nature. I was able to discuss topics with my graduate school professors one on one and study my field of specialization in depth. Also, I really enjoyed my student life. I met and interacted with exchange students from many different countries, and made more friends after joining a drum and dance performance circle. Today, I’m working in Japan and using the language skills I learned at university in my job. I want to continue working while utilizing my Cantonese, Mandarin Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean language skills.
